SCATTERED SHOWERS & STORMS TODAY… Numerous showers and a few embedded thunderstorms will move across south Alabama and northwest Florida from west to east today. We note a few showers are already happening across west Alabama this morning. Rain will progressively move eastward throughout the day.

SEVERE WEATHER RISK REMAINS LOW… The Storm Prediction Center continues to outlook our area in their “general thunderstorm” (aka Level 0) zone in the latest Convective Outlook. This means that thunderstorms will be possible, but overall, the severe weather risk remains low. Tornadoes, large hail, and damaging winds are not expected. If any severe weather does occur, it would likely be a “one off” thing where you have a brief gust of wind. All this means: No big deal today! Good news.

TIMING OF RAIN/STORMS… Showers and storms will move by mainly now to 4PM. I expect that all rain and storms will be to our east by 6PM this evening. Vast majority of evening events should end up being dry.

FEW SHOWERS ON FRIDAY EVENING… Today will be the last bigger rain event for awhile. Friday could feature a few isolated showers across our region. Most of these showers will likely happen between 7PM Friday and 2AM on Sunday, based on the latest model data.

WARMER DAYS AHEAD… We all know it has to get warmer at some point as we head into the summer months. It looks like Sunday will kick off a period of warmer weather. Sunshine returns for Sunday through Tuesday as high temperatures rise into the mid-80s.

I’ve got all the details for you in the Thursday #rzw forecast video in the post below… Have a great day!

MONROE ACADEMY… Great afternoon in Monroeville, AL at Monroe Academy! The kindergarten through 6th graders were a fantastic, large group of 180 students. We discussed tornadoes, severe weather, and safety actions. ?⛈?

I’d bet you’ll see a familiar face in this short video if you live in Monroe County. ? Great group! Thanks to Headmaster Susan McKenzie and Shannon Hanks for getting this together.

SUNNY, DRY WEDNESDAY; SHOWERS & STORMS THURSDAY… Plenty of sunshine is likely on this Wednesday across south Alabama and northwest Florida. Showers and thunderstorms will again move across our area on Thursday during the daytime hours, but for now, the good news is severe weather parameters remain very low! Let’s talk details…

NO RAIN TODAY… No rain/storm issues are expected today across the region. High temperatures will be comfortable, in the mid-70s for most of us. In fact, much of the state of Alabama will top out in the 70s. There may be a few puffy, white cumulus clouds in the sky this afternoon, but I’m not expecting rain until early Thursday.

LITTLE/NO SEVERE ISSUES ON THURSDAY… An area of low pressure will swing by to our north, bringing with it a brief chance of showers and thunderstorms on Thursday. Again, the severe weather potential with this system for south Alabama and northwest Florida appears to be quite low as of now. Unlike the last weekend when we had ample shear to support a few tornadoes, this system doesn’t have nearly as much shear and very low instability to work with. This is good news for us!

RAIN TIMING ON THURSDAY… Rain chances will be greatest across our region from 9AM to 5PM, with the Noon to 2PM looking like the wettest couple of hours for most of us. Grab the umbrellas and rain jackets before you head out the door on Thursday. Rain will have likely exited our area to the east by 6PM on Thursday.

FEW SHOWERS FRIDAY… Our next system will be a small impulse in the midlevels of the atmosphere that could churn up a few showers late on Friday. I think most of us will be dry, but I can’t rule out a few showers late in the day on Friday.

DRY, NICE, WARMING TEMPS AHEAD… After the small risk of rain on Friday, Saturday will kickoff an extended slew of days that will be exceedingly dry. Temperatures will climb into the 80s starting Sunday afternoon as high pressure builds in from the west. Early next week looks sunny, warm, and calm. Great news for early May!

Depending on where you are this afternoon across southwest Alabama or northwest Florida, skies are either partly or mostly cloudy. Cloud coverage is a bit thicker across northern parts of Clarke, Monroe, Conecuh, and Butler counties.

There may be a tiny shower or two before the end of the day, but widespread rain is not expected until Thursday.
