ALBERTO: THE LATEST… Maximum winds are now at 45mph as Subtropical Storm Alberto weakens, per the latest advisory from the National Hurricane Center. Just because winds are subsiding somewhat doesn’t mean the heavy rain threat is over. Plenty of rain will be in place across south Alabama and northwest Florida likely through later tonight. A Flash Flood Watch remains in place for many counties, but clearly the greatest risk of flash flooding will happen in/near Okaloosa, Walton, Covington, Coffee, Geneva, Butler, and Crenshaw counties over the next 6 hours.
COVINGTON COUNTY UPDATE… Very heavy rain is falling in Walton, Okaloosa, and southern Covington counties. The center of Subtropical Storm Alberto will move across Covington County between 6PM and 10PM this evening. Gusty winds (25-35mph sustained) and heavy rain will be likely across the county. We’re already observing heavy rain falling near Florala and Wing. This heavier rain will spread northward across Covington County over the next few hours. I wouldn’t be surprised if a Flash Flood Warning is needed a bit later for much of Covington County IF rain rates continue to increase, which is expected.
