WIDESPREAD STORMS FIRING NOW… Many small showers and thunderstorms are firing up across south Alabama and northwest Florida. The moisture axis where storms are forming extends from Mobile County all the way northeast to Covington County. This means that over the next hour, storms will be firing up a bit more rapidly.

Many outdoor events, including the Alabama Blueberry Festival, are happening today. We encourage everyone that is outside to move indoors when a thunderstorm is close by. Lightning deaths are far too common across the Gulf Coast region. “When thunder roars, go indoors.”

Heavy rain, lightning, brief gusty winds, and small hail are the concerns today in the stronger storms. The tornado threat remains basically zero.

I’ll have plenty of radar updates here in the RedZone Weather app over the next few hours.
