SCATTERED STORMS THIS AFTERNOON; SEASONAL WEEK AHEAD… Showers and thunderstorms will again pop up across south Alabama and northwest Florida this afternoon, especially across inland communities. Rain chances will decrease, albeit slightly, for Monday and Tuesday. We’re also monitoring a system in the tropics. Let’s talk…

TROPICAL LOW IN WESTERN GULF… An area of low pressure is producing widespread convection (numerous showers and thunderstorms) across the western half of the Gulf of Mexico. There is a small (20%) chance that this area of low pressure could develop into a tropical storm before it moves onshore in southern Texas later this week. Regardless of “formal development,” heavy rain and flash flooding will be likely in southern Texas near Brownsville, McAllen, Corpus Christi, and surrounding areas. 10-12 inches of rain could happen in those areas over the next 5-7 days. No direct local impacts are expected from this system in south Alabama and northwest Florida, other than an enhanced risk of rip currents at area beaches.

STORMS THIS AFTERNOON… Rain chances during the afternoon and evening hours will be 40-50% for inland areas and near 30-40% for coastal communities. Heavy rain, dangerous cloud-to-ground lightning, and gusty winds are likely. Storm coverage today will be a bit deflated compared to the last few days. The overall severe weather risk today remains very low. The tornado risk is basically zero.

P.M. STORMS MONDAY & TUESDAY… There will be storms around in the afternoon and evening hours, most likely, on Monday and Tuesday. I expect showers and thunderstorms to be more widely scattered than the last few days, meaning more of us should be dry.

LOOKING AHEAD TO THE WEEKEND… Wednesday through Sunday look seasonal, with a chance of showers and thunderstorms mainly concentrated in the afternoon and evening hours. High temperatures over the next 7-10 days will be near 90° with morning lows around 70°.

APP… I’ll have plenty of radar updates, as needed, here in the RedZone Weather app this afternoon. Be sure to visit the Alerts tab (bottom right corner) and then tap the large, yellow “Alert Settings” button to customize the alerts you’d like to receive straight from me.

Have a great Sunday evening!
