EARLY EVENING UPDATE… I’m keeping a close eye on two distinct areas of scattered showers and thunderstorms this evening.

The first batch of storms is moving east through Conecuh, Covington, Butler, Crenshaw, Coffee, and Pike counties. Heavy rain and lightning will be possible shortly in Red Level, Andalusia, Cohassett, Elba, and Troy.

JUST IN… A new severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for much of northern Mobile County, including Citronelle, Chunchula, Turnerville, Celeste, Mauvilla, Satsuma, and Saraland. This is valid until 4:45PM. Bad time to be driving north out of Mobile on US45 and US98!

The second batch of thunderstorms moving across our region from west to east is now entering west Alabama. We note the southern end of this complex of rain and storms has prompted a severe thunderstorms warning for west-central Mobile County including Wilmer, Tanner Williams, Big Creek Lake, Semmes, and a portion of US98 west of the Mobile metro. At the moment, the city of Mobile is not included in a severe thunderstorm warning. I am concerned about the 5PM rush hour in Mobile and surrounding areas, however. Storms will be moving in at the worst possible time of the day. Expect potentially major traffic delays!

Storms will continue to pop up and develop across our region and move eastward. Widespread severe weather is not expected. I’ll continue to have updates here in the RZWeather app.
