HEAT ADVISORY THIS WEEKEND… Heat index values will approach 110° for parts of our area today and on Sunday. This will, no doubt, be the hottest weekend of the year so far. Air temperatures will be 95-97° this afternoon, but with the humidity factored in, it will feel even hotter. Rain chances today are pegged at our climatological average for this time of year, meaning a 30-40% chance of rain for each of us. Let’s talk details…

ISOLATED P.M. STORMS… You know the drill: Summer storms can produce heavy downpours of rain that put some weak tropical storms to shame! While 98% of our summer pop-up storms are NOT severe, they ARE often intense with lots of lightning and heavy rain. Have a way to check the radar throughout the day. I’ll have updates in the RedZone Weather app. Any storms that pop up could briefly become severe and produce gusty winds and hail. The tornado threat remains basically zero today, as is our normal in summer around here.

A NOTE ABOUT THE HEAT… This is summer in the Deep South, and it (frankly) is not unusual to have a few “very hot spells” in June, July, and August. If you’re going to be outside, take it easy and stay hydrated. Don’t forget about pets.

Thanks to our local National Weather Service office for this fantastic heat index graphic attached.

Have a great Saturday!
