FINALLY! A DRIER DAY… After what seems like weeks of scattered showers and thunderstorms, today we get a break. Patchy areas of fog and stratus clouds this morning will burn off, giving way to a sunny, hot day across south Alabama and northwest Florida. Winds will be out of the north today and tomorrow, which will usher in drier air. The entirety of the region should be dry throughout the day on Thursday as well before a few showers and storms return on Friday. When you step outside early in the morning hours through Friday, you may notice a crisp, dry, slightly cooler air as overnight lows will be around 68.

FOOTBALL FORECAST PREVIEW… Winds will shift to be out of the east and southeast on Friday, which will allow some Gulf moisture to sneak back into our region. This means that a few showers and storms could develop, especially across coastal areas of northwest Florida, on Friday. Vast majority of our region will be dry, however, into the evening hours of Friday. Temperatures will be in the mid-80s around 7PM.

SHOWERS & STORMS RETURN THIS WEEKEND… Rain chances spike to around 40% for Saturday as our southerly flow off the northern Gulf of Mexico returns. Seasonal rain chances will be in place for Sunday as well. It certainly won’t be an “all day washout” either day, but there will be storms around at times, particularly in the afternoon and evening hours. High temperatures will be in the low- to mid-90s.

ATLANTIC BASIN QUIET… The tropical Atlantic Ocean, Gulf of Mexico, and Caribbean Sea all remain quiet with no tropical storm formation expected over the next 5 days. Hawaii and the central Pacific are where the tropical action is…

HURRICANE WATCHES & WARNINGS FOR HAWAII… The forecast (cone of uncertainty) for Major Hurricane Lane in the central Pacific has shifted northward. This means that much of the U.S. state of Hawaii could have tropical storm and/or hurricane conditions this weekend. We note Lane remains a powerful hurricane, with maximum winds in excess of 130 mph. If you have interest in Hawaii, please keep tabs on this powerful hurricane.
