STORMS TODAY & MONDAY; DRIER DAYS THIS WEEK… Scattered thunderstorms are happening across south Alabama and northwest Florida on this Sunday evening. At the time this video is being produced (3:40PM Sunday), we’re observing heavy rain setting up near Atmore, Brewton, Flomaton, McDavid, Red Oak, Mobile, Loxley, and Wawbeek. Storms will continue to develop across the region, both inland and closer to the coast, over the next few hours. These are pulse thunderstorms that are generally well under severe limits, however we note that lightning output has been pretty significant today in the stronger storms. “When thunder roars, go indoors” is definitely applicable today. Heavy rain will be a concern for drivers in the next few hours.
OVERALL DRIER PATTERN AHEAD… Another round of thunderstorms will pop up on Monday across the region due to the influence of the sea breeze. Tuesday, we kick off a new weather pattern as winds shift from out of the east. There absolutely could be some rain around each day, but overall, most spots across the region will be drier after Tuesday. High temperatures are slated to be in the mid- to upper-80s over the next seven days with morning lows around 68°.
TROPICS QUIETER; WATCHING LESLIE… Tropical Storm Leslie is a large, yet fairly weak, tropical storm located hundreds of miles east of Bermuda in the middle of the north Atlantic Ocean. Leslie is expected to strengthen in the days ahead as it meanders in the same general area of the north Atlantic. No direct land impacts are expected. Elsewhere in the tropics, including in the Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico, we’re quiet!
