MILD SUNDAY; COOLER TEMPS LATER THIS WEEK… Our wonderful weekend weather is set to continue during the afternoon and evening hours on this Sunday as high pressure remains in control. Temperatures across the region will peak in the upper-60s in most spots. Some areas may hit 70° before 3PM. I expect temperatures to bottom out around 42° by daybreak on Monday morning.
FEW SHOWERS POSSIBLE LATE TUESDAY… A weak cold front will move by our region late Tuesday into early Wednesday. While the daytime hours of Tuesday will likely be dry and mild under mostly cloudy skies, there is a small (<20%) rain chance Tuesday night. No severe weather is expected and there is a good chance that vast majority of us across the region will stay dry.
COOLER AIR BY WEDNESDAY… High temperatures on Wednesday will drop into the 50s with overnight lows by Thursday morning near 31° in most spots, especially across inland communities. Thursday and Friday look chilly as well with highs in the 50s and lows in the 30s, but we should have quite a bit of sunshine on both of those days. After Tuesday night, the next chance of rain happens late on Friday into Saturday of the upcoming weekend.
A NOTE ABOUT EL NIÑO… It’s been a mildish, wet winter so far across our local area. One reason why may be the fact that a weak El Niño pattern is being observed in the equatorial waters of the Pacific Ocean. These slightly warmer than average sea surface temperatures west of the South American continent can have global impacts, both large and small. Note that this is only ONE factor that plays into our weather pattern, with mesoscale variabilities also playing in. The long range (7-14 day model trends) point to near or slightly above average temperatures. Typically when an El Niño is present, that means the southeastern U.S. will have slightly warmer and slightly wetter conditions than normal.
