WARM, WET WEEK AHEAD; STORMS LIKELY MIDWEEK… Thunderstorms are likely Wednesday as we look ahead to our next round of potentially strong storms. Before we get there, an overall warm, wet pattern will persist across south Alabama and northwest Florida as much of our area remains out ahead of a cold front. This means that we will be in the warm sector this week. Rain chances will be elevated with at least some chance of rain each day. Isolated showers are possible this afternoon across the region with some spots making a run at the 80 degree mark! Plenty to discuss in the weather department on this Sunday afternoon. Let’s go…
CLOUDY & WARM TODAY; FEW SHOWERS POSSIBLE… Mostly cloudy skies continue across the region with temperatures in the upper-70s at the time this video is being produced around 1PM. I wouldn’t be shocked at all if a few spots hit 80° by 2-3PM. Warm, moist Gulf air continues to surge in from the south. This means that a few isolated rain showers will be possible over the next few hours. Rain will become more likely overnight into the very early morning hours of Monday.
COOLER MONDAY W/ A FEW SHOWERS… Rain will be likely Monday morning as a cold front moves by our region from northwest to southeast. Highs on Monday will be in the low- to mid-60s with clouds hanging tough throughout the day. We get a quick turnaround, however, as the wind out of the north won’t last long at all. The warm, southerly flow off the Gulf returns late Tuesday.
RAIN LIKELY TUESDAY INTO WEDNESDAY… Another stalled front will approach our area from the northwest late on Wednesday. Our area will be ahead of the frontal boundary on Tuesday, meaning warm, muggy conditions will return. Highs Tuesday will be in the upper-60s with highs Wednesday surging into the mid- to upper-70s. Numerous showers and a few thunderstorms are possible on Tuesday into Wednesday.
STRONG ROUND OF STORMS POSSIBLE WEDNESDAY… The local National Weather Service notes that isolated strong to severe thunderstorms will be possible Wednesday across south Alabama and northwest Florida. The greatest combination of “severe weather ingredients” seems most likely to set up just to our west across the southeastern part of Mississippi, although we’re still a few days out from this event meaning we’ve got to be diligent in monitoring this setup. There could be an isolated tornado and damaging wind risk in parts of our area midweek. Be sure to check back with me tomorrow and over the next few days about. We’ve had our eyes on this event for the last few days and now that it’s almost here, we’ll begin to get a better handle of specifics.
MAJOR RAIN EVENT FOR NORTH ALABAMA… The latest Quantitative Precipitation Forecast continues to indicate that significant rainfall totals are likely for north Alabama over the next five to seven days. Rain amounts of 5-8” of rain are possible across the far northern part of the state. Flooding will become a real concern, especially across the northern half of Alabama. Flooding impacts will likely be mitigated in our area and for much of the southern half of Alabama and northwest Florida as rain amounts are expected to be far less (in the 0-3” range, depending on the exact location).
