WARM SATURDAY BEFORE A FEW STORMS TONIGHT… Cloud coverage will increase on this Saturday ahead of a few showers and thunderstorms that will move by tonight into the early part of Sunday morning. Temperatures will be at their peak around 3PM today near the 80 degree mark. Following that, there is a good chance that temperatures won’t increase much at all on Sunday as a potent cold front moves by. Let’s talk about your weather details…
MAINLY DRY THROUGH SUNSET… No significant rain or storms are expected until after the sun goes down this evening. High temperatures will peak around 80-81° this afternoon under increasingly cloudy skies. There will be some sun in the mix, especially this morning.
GREATEST RAIN CHANCE OVERNIGHT… Rain chances peak in the 11PM to 5AM range as a cluster of showers and thunderstorms is expected to move by. The severe weather risk for south Alabama and northwest Florida remains very low and at zero for many spots. Thunder and lightning will be possible in addition to heavy downpours of rain. LEVEL 2 SEVERE WEATHER RISK TO THE NORTH… Much of the northwestern part of Alabama is now involved in the Storm Prediction Center’s Level 2 (out of 5) slight risk zone valid for later today. This means that a few isolated strong to severe storms may happen. The tornado risk, even in this Level 2 risk zone, remains LOW. The risk today in the included areas will mainly be from the wind and hail potential. In Alabama, a few samples of the places included in the lower-end risk zones: Livingston, Aliceville, Fayette, Hamilton, Double Springs, Decatur, Athens, Moulton, Russellville, Muscle Shoals, and Florence. We note that Jackson (MS), Tupelo (MS), Oxford (MS), Starkville (MS), Jackson (TN), and Nashville (TN) are also included in the low-end risk area.
COOLER AIR SURGES IN OVERNIGHT… Sunday will be quite chilly with a brisk (10-20mph) north wind and lingering showers. Rain will be possible during much of the daytime hours on Sunday, but it likely won’t be an “all day washout” for any given spot.
ANOTHER ROUND OF RAIN LATE MONDAY… Another area of low pressure will approach from the west late in the day on Monday, setting off the potential for a few showers. Cool, stable air will be in place, thus the potential for severe weather remains very low.
WARMER END TO NEXT WEEK… Temperatures quickly rebound into the mid-70s by Wednesday of the upcoming week. The end of the week (Friday and Saturday, a week from today) look wet and potentially stormy with temperatures in the low-80s in the afternoon hours.
