STORMS TO MOVE INTO WEST ALABAMA AROUND MIDNIGHT… Just saw this fantastic reminder from NWS Birmingham… “Don’t let your guard down as you head off to bed. Severe thunderstorms that have produced damaging tornadoes in central MS will begin moving into our state in the next couple hours. Get those weather radios and phone apps TURNED ON.”

They’re exactly right. There are numerous severe thunderstorm warnings in effect for east Mississippi counties as a severe line of storms moves through. This line of storms will move into west Alabama around midnight, bringing with it the threat of tornadoes and damaging wind gusts.

DAMAGING TORNADO AT STARKVILLE, MS… A Tornadic Debris Signature is being observed in/near Starkville, Mississippi as of 10:27PM. This is a confirmation that a damaging tornado is on the ground very near Mississippi State University.

TORNADO WATCH TILL 5AM… A Tornado Watch continues for Mobile, Baldwin, Washington, Clarke, Monroe, Wilcox, and Choctaw counties in west Alabama until 5AM. I expect the remainder of our counties to be added to a new tornado watch overnight.

LAST OF THE LOW-LEVEL ALERTS FOR TONIGHT AT 11PM… Per our usual policy, I will stop issuing Low-Level Alert notifications at 11PM CDT. Make sure you have your specific county alert toggle turned ON in the Alerts tab (lower right corner of RZW app) to get tornado warning alerts during the night. Note: You need something that will wake you up as well like a NOAA Weather Radio. Our alerts right now are the standard iOS/Android tone and not something louder.
