MORE RAIN & STORMS AT TIMES TODAY; COLD AIR ARRIVES THURSDAY… Showers and storms will be numerous again today across south Alabama and northwest Florida as a warm front lifts northward across our region. Widespread severe weather is not expected today, although a strong storm or two near the immediate coastline can’t be ruled out. More storms are likely on Thursday ahead of sunny, cool weather on Friday after a cold front moves by. Our weather pattern this weekend will be the most fall-like we have had so far this season. High temperatures are slated to drop into the 60s with morning lows in the 40s. Let’s look at your forecast details…
UPDATE: LEVEL 1 SEVERE WEATHER RISK FOR PART OF LOCAL AREA… Right after I produced this video, the Storm Prediction Center issued an updated convective outlook that now includes local communities in the Level 1 (out of 5) low-end, marginal severe weather risk zone. Much of Covington, Escambia (AL), Baldwin, Mobile counties and points north and west are included in this zone. This means that the following communities have a low-end severe weather risk today: Brewton, Andalusia, Opp, Evergreen, Monroeville, Thomasville, Coffeeville, Grove Hill, Jackson, Chatom, Mobile, Greenville, Georgiana, and McKenzie.
POTENTIAL HAZARDS TODAY… If any storms happen to ramp up to strong or severe levels, the main concern will be brief damaging wind gusts in the stronger storms. An isolated tornado is possible, but the overall tornado risk remains low.
RAIN LIKELY INTERMITTENTLY TODAY… I expect rain and thunderstorms to intermittently be present across our region today. Temperatures won’t move much at all due to all the clouds around. Most spots will remain in the 70s all day. Thunderstorms will be most likely to happen closer to the immediate coastline and over west Alabama in the Level 1 risk zone where more instability is in place. You can keep tabs on the radar in the Radar tab of the RedZone Weather app.
COLD FRONT ARRIVES THURSDAY EVENING… The main reason we have a high chance of rain today and tomorrow, primarily in the afternoon and evening hours each day, is because of the southeastward-advancing cold front that will approach our area on Thursday. Much cooler, drier air will surge into our region from the northwest on Thursday evening. Temperatures will drop from near 80° at 3PM on Thursday to the mid-40s by 6AM on Friday. Winds will shift from out of the northwest Thursday evening. Wind chills Thursday night into Friday morning will be in the 50s and subsequently low-40s by Friday morning.
BEAUTIFUL, COOL WEEKEND UPCOMING… This will be about as perfect as you can get around here for an early November weekend! High temperatures will be in the mid-60s Friday, Saturday, and on Sunday. Overnight lows will consistently be in the low- to mid-40s across the region. Sunny skies during the day and clear skies at night are expected.
