PARTLY CLOUDY TODAY; MORE RAIN ON FRIDAY… Rain yesterday, dry today, rain tomorrow! While partly cloudy skies are likely on this Thursday, we are looking ahead to Friday when more showers are likely across our region. Isolated showers may happen over west Alabama as early as this evening (likely after sunset), but the bulk of the rain on Friday will happen between 6AM and 6PM. The good news is severe weather parameters remain LOW with this system. Even better news is the weekend looks fantastic! Plenty of sunshine is likely on both Saturday and on Sunday with high temperatures increasing to the upper-60s by Sunday. Next week looks unsettled with multiple chances of rain. Let’s look at your forecast details.
CLOUDS INCREASE LATER TODAY… Cloud coverage is set to increase yet again this afternoon into the evening hours. High temperatures on this Thursday will peak in the 63-66 degree range. The entirety of south Alabama and northwest Florida will likely remain dry through 5-6PM. A few showers may happen west of the Alabama River in parts of Clarke, Washington, and Choctaw counties after sunset, but most of the rain will hold off until after midnight.
RAIN LIKELY AT TIMES OVERNIGHT INTO FRIDAY… Scattered to numerous areas of rain are likely overnight into the daytime hours of Friday. Keep the rain gear close by throughout the day on Friday. There may be a rumble of thunder or two near the immediate beach zones on Friday, but no severe weather is expected as a cool, stable air mass remains in place across our region. Temperatures on Friday will struggle to get to the mid-50s, (most spots will top out in the 52-54° range) meaning a cold, wet, pretty miserable day is ahead.
GORGEOUS, SEASONAL WEEKEND… The consolation prize of sorts happens this weekend as Saturday and Sunday are expected to be mostly sunny and a bit more mild. High temperatures on Saturday will be around 60° but we rise into the upper-60s on Sunday. Overnight lows will be in the low-40s.
MORE RAIN EARLY NEXT WEEK… More rain is likely as we get into next week. There could be more thunderstorms involved as well as it appears our area will be involved in more of an unstable air mass by Tuesday.

We're in a pattern where rain will be possible pretty much every 2-3 days… The good news is no significant storms are expected for land areas! Thunder possible at the coast with each rain event. pic.twitter.com/AyT6UP8Ef4

RAIN AT TIMES TODAY; FEW STORMS POSSIBLE AT THE COAST… Rain is the word on this Wednesday with numerous showers likely throughout the day. There could be a few thunderstorms near the immediate beach zones through 3PM or so, but the good news is we are not expecting severe weather issues north of the coast. There does appear to be sufficient instability and shear to support some severe thunderstorms across the northern Gulf of Mexico, but at this point I don’t see any data to suggest issues for any land areas. High temperatures today will peak in the mid-50s. Temperatures will remain suppressed due to all of the cloud cover in place. Rain will clear out tonight ahead of drier conditions setting up for Thursday. The dry weather won’t last long, however, as we have another round of rain set to happen on Friday. Better weather is ahead for Saturday and Sunday though. Let’s look at your forecast details.
RAIN CLEARS OUT TONIGHT… Rain will intermittently happen through the evening hours on this Wednesday. You will need the rain gear if you’re headed out to a Wednesday evening church service. Rumbles of thunder are possible, especially in coastal counties, but no severe weather issues are expected. Rain will clear out of our area to the east this evening between 7PM and 11PM in most spots. There could be a few lingering showers in parts of Butler, Covington, and Okaloosa counties through midnight, but rain will be well off to our east by then in most spots.
DRIER THURSDAY… Partly cloudy skies are likely for Thursday. High temperatures will peak in the low- to mid-60s. No rain issues are expected on Thursday, but you will notice cloud coverage increasing late in the day ahead of our next rain chance on Friday.
RAIN RETURNS FRIDAY… Yet another rain event sets up for Friday, and the latest model guidance continues to suggest that majority of the daylight hours will be wet. Temperatures will probably remain in the mid- to upper-50s all day. This cool, fairly stable air will limit any potential for strong to severe thunderstorms, although just like the event today, I cannot completely rule out a few stronger storms south of the beaches in the northern Gulf of Mexico. The air mass in place over the northern Gulf will be a bit more unstable with more instability in place compared to land areas. We will call for rain on Friday with only a limited chance of thunder near the coast.
NICE, DRY, SLIGHTLY WARMER WEEKEND… Clouds will clear out Saturday morning giving way to sunny skies setting up for the evening hours into Sunday. Temperatures this weekend are set to be quite nice and seasonal. High temperatures on Saturday will be in the low-60s ahead of mid- to upper-60s on Sunday. Overnight lows will be in the mid-40s. Those temperature values are exactly where we should be for late January and early February.
MORE RAIN LIKELY NEXT WEEK… Another area of low pressure is slated to move by our region on Tuesday and Wednesday of the upcoming week. There are some early indications that we could have more thunderstorms involved with that event, although it is too early to speculate whether strong to severe storms may be an issue. We will watch this and keep you posted about details in the RedZone Weather app in the days ahead.

☔️ Keep the rain gear handy throughout the day! Numerous showers are expected. There could be a few storms near the coast and stronger storms offshore. No severe weather issues are likely for land areas! pic.twitter.com/9sgeYK64ql
— Spinks Megginson (@rzweather) January 29, 2020
SHOWERS AHEAD FOR WEST ALABAMA… The first of the rain for today has started over west Alabama in Choctaw and northern Washington counties. Rain coverage is set to increase later today. Widespread thunderstorms are unlikely due to the lack of instability, but showers will be numerous.
I’ll have your next full forecast video posted by 7:15AM. See you then!
