SCATTERED STORMS MOVING NORTHEAST… Scattered areas of heavy rain and thunderstorms continue to move northeast across our local area as of 12:25AM. At the moment, the strongest storms locally are happening in parts of Clarke, Washington, and Choctaw counties in west Alabama. Lightning output with the storms near Coffeeville, Millry, and Frankville has increased over the last 15-30 minutes. These storms will move toward Thomasville and Fulton within the next 30 minutes.

WHAT TO EXPECT THROUGH SUNRISE… More of the same! Scattered storms will continue to move northeast. You may have heavy rain, lightning, and thunder at your specific location if you’re in south Alabama and northwest Florida. You may even have some small hail if a stronger storm passes by. The overall tornado risk remains very low in areas north of Interstate 10, which is a large chunk of the area. The immediate beach communities have a slightly higher tornado risk over the next several hours, but even in coastal communities, the overall tornado risk remains low.

WEATHER ANXIETY? NOT TONIGHT… It is always such a pleasure to talk to so many people across our region that tell me they read our app content during the middle of the night on active weather nights. Many of the folks up this late (or early) are awake because of severe weather anxiety, which is a very real phenomenon. It is more common than you would think! If this applies to you, I would tell you that tonight is definitely not a night you should spend energy being concerned about. The overall severe weather risk is so low that we probably will come through this event with no tornado warnings. As always, have a way to get warnings just in case we happen to have a storm or two that ramps up to severe levels.
