CLOUDS INCREASE TODAY; SHOWERS POSSIBLE TONIGHT… Mostly cloudy skies are expected across south Alabama and northwest Florida on this Saturday. High temperatures will peak in the mid-80s. There could be a shower or two late this evening across west Alabama, but I expect vast majority of us to remain dry into Sunday. Our next more active round of weather will happen during the middle part of the upcoming week when a surface low and trailing front may trigger thunderstorms across our area. Let’s look at a few brief details.

FEW SHOWERS SUNDAY… We’ll call it a 20-30% chance of showers on Sunday for our local area as an area of low pressure develops to our west. Highs on Sunday will again be in the mid-80s. The greatest chance of rain on Sunday will happen across coastal counties. No severe weather is expected on Sunday.

STORMS POSSIBLE MIDWEEK… Thunderstorms will be possible Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday across our region as an unsettled pattern sets up. There have been some model scenarios that support the potential for a few strong to severe thunderstorms across our area during the midweek timeframe, but it’s too early to give specifics. This is April in the Deep South, meaning we all need to be ready for severe weather events. March and April are our primary severe weather season months. I’ll keep you posted over the next few days.

APP… If you haven’t already, be sure to download the free RedZone Weather app to keep up with all the latest information on the world of weather in south Alabama and northwest Florida. redzoneweather.com/app is the link for the free download. Once you have the app downloaded to your iOS or Android device, be sure to visit the Alerts tab (lower right corner) and tap the large, yellow Alert Settings button to customize the alerts you would like to receive straight from me.

CARDS FOR THE ELDERLY… Please don’t forget to take advantage of our new RedZone Weather Cards for the Elderly program. We want to be able to safely send as many encouraging cards as possible to our local senior adults in nursing homes. Be sure to visit the link below for all the information. This is an opportunity for students and adults across our region to write encouraging notes to elderly people currently under lockdown in local nursing homes due to the ongoing COVID-19 situation. Here is the link.

Have a wonderful Saturday!
