SONIC BOOM REPORTED IN BALDWIN COUNTY… I have had several messages in the last hour asking if an earthquake happened in southern Baldwin County in the last hour. No doubt that a sonic boom happened, but so far, the USGS is not confirming an earthquake. Numerous buildings evidently shook, startling some folks in areas near Orange Beach and Gulf Shores. It appears this event is more likely due to low-flying military aircraft in the area, although that is one theory and not confirmed at this time. I also have had a couple of messages from folks in the southern part of Escambia County, FL near the Perdido Key area.

Let me know below if you experienced this event and if so, where specifically. I am in the process of contacting the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) to see if we can get a manual seismograph review of the data in question.
