RAIN LIKELY ON FRIDAY; RAIN COULD BE HEAVY AT TIMES… Here comes the rain! We are already seeing a few showers that continue to move in from the west. Rain coverage will increase overnight. There is a 90% chance of rain tomorrow (Friday), mainly in the morning hours. Rain could be heavy at times and there is a small risk of a few instances of flash flooding, mainly across west Alabama. There is NOT, however, a tornado or severe thunderstorm risk with this passing weather system. Monday may be a different story, but this will almost certainly just be heavy rain at times through Friday midday. A few more Thursday evening forecast notes are below.

GREATEST CHANCE OF FLASH FLOODING OVER SOUTHWEST ALABAMA… The Weather Prediction Center has highlighted parts of southwest Alabama and southeast Mississippi in their low-end risk zone for flash flooding, valid on Friday morning. Rain totals of 1 to 3 inches are expected in parts of Monroe, Clarke, Washington, Choctaw, Marengo, and Wilcox counties. I do not expect flash flooding to become a widespread, major issue, but there could be some localized areas that have brief flooding issues.

LOWER RAIN AMOUNTS NEAR THE COAST… While most inland communities will pick up at least one inch of rainfall in total, there is a real chance communities at the immediate beach zones in Alabama and northwest Florida won’t have AS much rainfall, comparatively. Most communities closer to the coast will pick up between a quarter of an inch and 1 inch of rainfall in total.

STRONG STORMS POSSIBLE MONDAY… Our next chance of strong to potentially severe thunderstorms will happen on Monday as a dynamic weather system passes to our north. There still is quite a bit of uncertainty about specifics. There is no way to know just yet if tornadoes will be a concern or if this will be more of a damaging wind risk. I will be closely monitoring model guidance this weekend and will bring you the latest in the RedZone Weather app.

APP ALERTS… redzoneweather.com/app is the link where you can download the free RedZone Weather app. We post brief updates throughout each day in the app, keeping you up-to-date about the latest happenings in weather across south Alabama and northwest Florida. Once you have the free app downloaded to your iOS or Android device, be sure to visit the Alerts tab (lower right corner) then tap the large, yellow Alert Settings button to customize the alerts you would like to receive straight from me.

My next full forecast video will be posted by 7:15AM tomorrow morning. Have a great Thursday evening!
