LOWER RAIN CHANCES TODAY AND TOMORROW, BUT NOT ZERO… Scattered showers and thunderstorms will continue to be possible at times on this Wednesday. Rain chances will be less than the last few days, but not at zero. Scattered storms will remain the norm over the next week, but we will have lower rain chances today and tomorrow compared to the weekend. That is when rain chances are slated to rise. We also continue to monitor an area of disturbed weather developing in the southwestern Caribbean Sea that has a low-end chance of becoming a tropical storm over the next few days. More Wednesday morning forecast details are below.

RIP CURRENT WARNING AT LOCAL BEACHES… If you’re headed to the Alabama or northwest Florida beaches today or over the next few days, please be aware of the potential for dangerous rip currents. Many folks don’t understand that dangerous rip currents can and do happen even on blue sky, sunny days. Rip currents have more to do with wind direction and speed compared to overall sky conditions. If you’re not an experienced swimmer, please stay out of the water today. Rip current conditions are likely to improve this weekend.

SLIGHTLY LOWER RAIN CHANCES OVER NEXT FEW DAYS… Rain chances won’t completely drop to zero, but chances will be lower today and on Thursday. High temperatures will likely hit or briefly surpass the 90 degree mark in many locations on Thursday into Friday. Overnight lows will consistently be in the low-70s over the next several days.

RAIN CHANCES INCREASE AGAIN THIS WEEKEND… More showers and thunderstorms are likely to happen this weekend into early next week. For now, I do not see any signs of an organized severe weather risk. I do, however, continue to see signs in the short-term and long-term model guidance of scattered P.M. showers and thunderstorms in varying amounts each day. That lines up very well with climatology for this time of year. These pop-up storms will continue “off and on” through September.

TROPICAL UPDATE… The National Hurricane Center continues to show low-end probabilities of a tropical storm developing later this week or perhaps into the upcoming weekend near the coast of Nicaragua in the southwestern Caribbean Sea. This system will not be a concern for our local area over the next 5-7 days. Elsewhere in the Atlantic Basin, no tropical storm formation is expected anytime soon.
