FEW STORMS TODAY; RAIN CHANCES INCREASE THIS WEEKEND… Isolated showers and thunderstorms will be possible today across south Alabama and northwest Florida, very similar to what happened yesterday. More communities will be dry today compared to earlier this week when showers and storms were more numerous across the region. Localized downpours are still possible, however, particularly this afternoon into this evening. High temperatures will be near the 90 degree mark this afternoon. While pop-up thunderstorms will be possible, there probably will be a good bit of sunshine in many locales as well. The Ultraviolet (UV) Index remains in the “extreme” range, meaning it won’t take long for many folks to get a sunburn if you’re outside awhile today. Our weather pattern is set to continue into the weekend with more pop-up showers and thunderstorms being possible. A few more Thursday morning forecast notes are below.

HOT, HUMID, POP-UP STORMS THIS WEEKEND… Rain chances will increase somewhat this weekend, but overall, our weather headlines remain the same: Pop-up thunderstorms are likely to happen in the afternoon and evening hours. Some storms may even fire up in the late morning hours. The storms this weekend will be scattered in nature and there is a real chance some communities may have no rain at all. High temperatures will be in the low-90s with morning lows near 70.

MORE STORMS LIKELY AT TIMES NEXT WEEK… If you like the weather pattern we are in now, you’re in luck! Next week will be near identical to this week with more pop-up thunderstorms each day. No real changes are noted in the medium-range guidance that would support any major forecast changes. That is what usually happens this time of year. Once we get into this summer time pattern, it usually lasts for quite some time.

TROPICAL UPDATE: LOWER DEVELOPMENT ODDS IN CARIBBEAN… Some good news to report in the tropics this morning! The National Hurricane Center has lowered the chances of tropical storm development for the tropical disturbance in the southwestern Caribbean Sea to near 0% this morning. From NHC: “A broad trough of low pressure has developed over the southwestern Caribbean Sea associated with a westward-moving tropical wave. However, significant development of this system is not expected while the disturbance moves west-northwestward over Central America during the next couple of days. Regardless, this system could produce heavy rainfall across northern Colombia and portions of Central America from Honduras southward late this week and over the weekend.”
