TROPICAL DEVELOPMENT POSSIBLE IN SOUTHERN GULF; STORMS LIKELY TODAY… Odds are increasing we will have our first Gulf of Mexico tropical storm toward the end of the upcoming week. The National Hurricane Center says there is a 30% chance of a tropical storm forming in the southern Gulf of Mexico and potentially moving north or west. While it is too early to know for sure whether this system will develop into a named storm, chances are increasing that this system will be a big rainmaker for some part of the Gulf Coast. Does that specifically mean our local area? It is possible, but it is FAR too early to know if local impacts will happen due to this system. It is something to watch over the next few days, but nothing to worry about at this point. I’ll keep you updated every step of the way in the RedZone Weather app. Today, another round of showers and thunderstorms will happen across south Alabama and northwest Florida. Some of the storms could be a bit stronger than previous days with gusty winds being the main concern. A few more forecast details are below.

30% CHANCE OF DEVELOPMENT IN BAY OF CAMPECHE… Interests in Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and the Florida Panhandle should continue to monitor the progress of the system that may develop in the southern Gulf. IF this system develops into a tropical storm, impacts may happen somewhere along the Gulf Coast potentially as early as Wednesday, June 16 to potentially as late as Saturday, June 19. We will be able to get more specific in the days ahead as more data arrives. From the National Hurricane Center: “A trough of low pressure is expected to form by early next week over the Bay of Campeche in the southwestern Gulf of Mexico. Subsequent slow development is possible as this system drifts slowly northward.”

MORE THUNDERSTORMS LIKELY AT TIMES TODAY… Scattered showers and thunderstorms are likely at times on this Saturday. I expect thunderstorms to be most numerous across inland areas. Some of the thunderstorms may be strong at times today with gusty winds, heavy rain, and cloud-to-ground lightning being the main concerns. I would not be surprised if several severe thunderstorm warnings are needed at times today as wet microbursts will be possible. The overall tornado risk today remains quite low if not zero in most spots. I’ll have radar updates posted in the RedZone Weather app as needed today.

CHANCE OF RAIN EACH DAY OVER THE NEXT SEVERAL DAYS… No real changes to report in our local forecast. We are now firmly in a summertime pattern where pop-up thunderstorms are the norm each day. High temperatures are slated to be around the 90 degree mark over the next few days with morning lows near 70.
