HEAVY RAIN & STORMS AT TIMES TODAY; RAIN CHANCES TRENDING LOWER LATER THIS WEEK… Showers and thunderstorms will be numerous across the region at times on this Tuesday as a frontal boundary crosses our area from the northwest. Widespread severe weather is not expected today, but we may have a few strong thunderstorms around that could produce loud thunder and torrential downpours of rain. Rain chances will be high throughout the day before tapering off later this evening. The days ahead will feature lower (albeit still nowhere close to zero!) rain chances with a return to more of a seasonal pattern with P.M. showers and thunderstorms. High temperatures on this Tuesday will be in the low- to mid-80s.

The center of Tropical Storm Claudette is racing northeast to its ultimate demise over the cooler waters of the northern Atlantic Ocean. Claudette is expected to become extratropical tonight or on Wednesday.

TROPICS: TROPICAL WAVE EAST OF LEEWARD ISLANDS… The National Hurricane Center says there is a brief chance for a tropical storm to form east of the Leeward Islands and Barbados over the next day or so. Right now, there is a 20% chance of development into a tropical storm. From NHC: “A well-defined tropical wave located about 900 miles east-southeast of the Windward Islands is producing disorganized showers and thunderstorms. Some development of this disturbance will be possible during the next couple of days before upper-level winds become less conducive for further organization by Thursday. The system is expected to move westward to west-northwestward at around 15 mph.
