NUMEROUS STORMS LIKELY TODAY; TEMPERATURES CLOSER TO NORMAL… Rain and thunderstorms will increase in coverage today compared to the last few days. I expect numerous thunderstorms to develop today, mostly in the afternoon and evening hours. Some of the thunderstorms today may be strong at times with cloud-to-ground lightning and loud thunder being possible. After an incredibly hot weekend, we get some heat relief today! Most spots across the region will peak in the upper-80s and near 90 today. That is much more in line with where we should be temperature-wise for early August. A few more Monday morning forecast details are below.

SCATTERED STORMS EXPECTED THIS EVENING… Rain chances will be fairly high all day, but I expect the greatest concentration of showers and thunderstorms to happen in the afternoon and evening hours on this Monday. Widespread severe weather is not expected today and the tornado risk remains at or near zero.

SEASONAL EARLY AUGUST PATTERN AHEAD… While the next several days will certainly be warm with hot conditions in the afternoon hours, the oppressive 110°+ heat index days are over, for now at least. High temperatures will be near 90 over the next several days with morning lows in the low- to mid-70s. That is a seasonal temperature range for early August. Scattered thunderstorms will continue to be possible each day.

TROPICS REMAIN QUIET… The Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, and Atlantic Ocean remain quiet. No new tropical storms are expected to form over the next several days. Most of the medium-range models also indicate quiet conditions may persist over the next week or so. Great news!
