80% CHANCE OF BRIEF TROPICAL STORM FORMING IN GULF… An area of low pressure now in the northern Gulf of Mexico has a high (80%) chance of becoming a brief tropical storm before the system makes landfall in the Florida Panhandle tonight. Heavy rain is happening along the coast of northwest Florida this afternoon. Significant impacts in south Alabama and northwest Florida are not expected. Rain will continue to be possible at times this evening into tonight. No major tornado threat and no significant wind threat!

If/when this system becomes a tropical storm, it will take the name “Mindy.”
