TROPICAL STORM NICHOLAS FORMS IN GULF; LOCAL IMPACTS POSSIBLE LATER THIS WEEK… Tropical Storm Nicholas has formed in the Bay of Campeche region of the Gulf of Mexico on this Sunday. Nicholas is expected to move north over the next few days before moving inland somewhere along the Texas or western Louisiana coast. Increased rain chances are likely across south Alabama and northwest Florida due to Nicholas later in the week.

POTENTIAL LOCAL IMPACTS – NICHOLAS… Regardless of if the center of Tropical Storm Nicholas makes landfall in Texas or western Louisiana later this week, deep tropical moisture will move into our local area in south Alabama and northwest Florida Thursday into Friday. This means that numerous showers and thunderstorms are likely to develop across our region. For now, other local impacts like gusty winds and tornadoes seem unlikely. Rip currents and high waves will be possible at local beaches throughout the week due to swells generated by Nicholas.

TROPICAL STORM WARNING FOR TEXAS COAST… A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for the coast of Texas from the Mouth of the Rio Grande to Port Aransas. A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for the coast of Texas from north of Port Aransas to High Island. A Storm Surge Watch is in effect for these areas as well.
