COOLER, DRIER AIR ARRIVES TODAY; NICE DAYS AHEAD… The day many of you have been looking forward to all summer long has finally arrived! Cooler, drier air is about to filter into south Alabama and northwest Florida behind an advancing cold front. This frontal boundary is crossing our area and will continue to move southeast tonight. Overnight lows will be in the upper-50s tonight ahead of high temperatures in the mid- to upper-70s tomorrow. Nice weather is ahead this weekend when mostly sunny skies will be in place with high temperatures in the mid-80s. We continue to monitor several tropical systems in the Atlantic Ocean. None of these systems will impact south Alabama or northwest Florida over the next 7 days.

FEW SHOWERS POSSIBLE THIS MORNING… A few showers and thunderstorms are not completely out of the question this morning through approximately 11AM. I expect most, if not all, of the areas of drizzle and rain to be well to our east by the time we get to Noon. No severe weather is expected today.

TROPICAL DEPRESSION PETER MOVING NORTHWEST… Tropical Depression Peter is located approximately 200 miles north of Puerto Rico in the southwestern corner of the Atlantic Ocean. Peter is barely hanging on this morning and the system is forecast to weaken into a remnant low pressure area tomorrow or Friday. The remnants of Peter will move toward Bermuda over the next several days.

ROSE STRUGGLING IN EASTERN ATLANTIC… Rose, a weakening system, is located in the eastern Atlantic Ocean. Rose will likely weaken into a remnant area of low pressure later this week or into the weekend. No land impacts are expected due to Rose.

SOON-TO-BE SAM IN THE ATLANTIC… A tropical wave located about halfway between Africa and the Lesser Antilles has a high (90%) chance of becoming a tropical storm as the system continues to push westward. If/when this system becomes a tropical storm, the next name on the tropical storm naming list is “Sam.” It remains too early to know if this system will directly affect the continental U.S. or any land areas. Interests in the Lesser Antilles, the U.S. and British Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico should closely monitor the progress of this system.
