GUSTY WINDS OF 30-40 MPH POSSIBLE THIS AFTERNOON INTO THIS EVENING… The National Weather Service has issued an uncommon High Wind Warning for the Alabama Gulf Coast and a Wind Advisory for everyone else across our local area as blustery conditions are expected this afternoon into this evening. Wind gusts of 20-30 mph inland and 30-40+ mph closer to the immediate coast will be possible this afternoon, this evening, and into tonight. While the severe weather and tornado risk is now completely over, these are “pressure gradient” winds setting up behind the advancing cold front.

Secure any loose objects in your yard before the front passes by your location. If you don’t, those Halloween decorations may end up blown down the street!

Winds may continue overnight into Friday, but I do expect wind speeds to calm down somewhat tomorrow evening and certainly into Saturday.

RADAR CHECK AS OF NOON… No rain is noted on radar as of Noon, although a few showers may become possible later this evening across inland areas of southwest Alabama. No storms and no severe weather issues are expected as cooler air will be surging into the area.

COOL FRIDAY AHEAD WITH A FEW SHOWERS… High temperatures on Friday will not get out of the 50s for some communities north of U.S. Highway 84. Most of us across the region will have highs in the low- to mid-60s. It is going to be the coolest day we have had since last winter/spring. Overnight lows will be in the upper-40s this weekend.

BREEZY TODAY; FEW SHOWERS POSSIBLE… Windy conditions are expected throughout the day with a few showers being possible at times. The severe weather threat is now long gone to our east. Thunderstorms are not expected today in our local area but we may have a few residual showers at times. Clouds will hang tough for much of the day, but I do expect some sunshine before the end of the day in some spots across the region. High temperatures today will be in the mid-70s. Tomorrow will be much cooler, however, with most spots only topping out in the 60s. I’ve got all of your Thursday morning forecast notes below.

SEVERE STORMS POSSIBLE TO OUR EAST TODAY… The same weather system that prompted multiple tornado warnings last night for parts of Mobile County has shifted east of our local area this morning. Thunderstorms could produce a few tornadoes and damaging wind gusts today across coastal stretches of North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and across the Florida Peninsula. We note the Storm Prediction Center has much of central and north Florida (east of Apalachicola) involved in their Level 2 (out of 5) severe weather risk today. Please be aware of this if you are traveling to those areas.

WIND ADVISORY FOR ENTIRE AREA THROUGH TONIGHT… All local counties in south Alabama and northwest Florida are involved in a Wind Advisory, valid through 7PM this evening. A Wind Advisory means 15 to 20 mph winds will continue to be possible at times today with wind gusts up to 30 to 35 mph. Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down. Halloween decorations may become airborne if left out in the yard.

COOL NIGHTS AHEAD… We kick off a streak of cool nights tonight with overnight lows likely to be near 50 degrees by daybreak Friday. Low temperatures will be in the upper-40s this weekend.

HIGHS ONLY IN THE MID-60s ON FRIDAY… You may need a jacket tomorrow as high temperatures will be borderline chilly. Highs will be near 60 near and just north of U.S. Highway 84 with mid-60s likely closer to the coast. Mostly cloudy skies are expected on Friday.

MAINLY SUNNY SATURDAY, SUNDAY, AND MONDAY… Sunshine is the story this weekend and into early next week. High temperatures will be in the low- to mid-70s on Saturday and Sunday.

NEXT RAIN CHANCE MIDWEEK… Our next weather system will likely move by our region in the middle part of the upcoming week, although confidence in the forecast in that range is a bit low. For now, expect a potential chance of rain on Thursday of the upcoming week. I will have more details in the days ahead.

TROPICS QUIET… The Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean Sea remain quiet, meaning no tropical storms or hurricanes are expected to form over the next several days. We are monitoring an area of low pressure in the northern Atlantic Ocean, centered about 375 miles south of Halifax, Nova Scotia in Canada. This disturbance is expected to move east and ultimately southeast in a few days as it meanders around the northern Atlantic Ocean. The National Hurricane Center says this system has about a 30% chance of becoming a brief tropical storm before the system moves out to sea. No significant land impacts are expected, regardless of if formal development happens.

ALL CLEAR: TORNADO RISK ENDS LOCALLY; WINDY CONDITIONS TO CONTINUE… The Tornado Watch has expired for all local counties and I can happily give everyone in southwest Alabama and northwest Florida WEST of Destin, Crestview, Florala, and Opp an ALL CLEAR from the severe weather risk. We are done for the night. Occasional showers and even a few rumbles of thunder may be possible over the next few hours. Windy conditions will continue intermittently throughout the day and into tonight. NWS Mobile maintains a Wind Advisory for all local counties, meaning wind gusts of 30-35 mph may be possible.

A Tornado Watch continues to our east in the Florida Panhandle region for Walton, Bay, Gulf, and several other counties.
