DEEP SOUTH REMAINS “TORNADO WATCH CAPITAL” OF AMERICA… Alabama and the Deep South had the most number of tornado watches issued in the year 2021 compared to any other part of the nation. 2021 was the third consecutive year that the Deep South had more tornado watches issued compared to any other region. 177 total tornado watches were issued in 2021, compared to 188 in 2019 and 151 in 2020.

This persistent statistic highlights the importance of being “weather ready” year round where we live. Tornadoes can happen any month of the year, but are most likely to happen in January, February, March, April, May, November, and December. March and April typically are the most active severe weather months across the Deep South.
