SCATTERED STORMS TODAY; DRY, HOT DAYS AHEAD… Thunderstorms will pop up this afternoon across parts of southwest Alabama and northwest Florida. While I do not expect thunderstorms to be as numerous as what we saw yesterday, I do expect storms to be loud and proud at times. Some of the pop up storms may produce up to quarter size hail and produce gusty winds. Cloud-to-ground lightning will also be a concern. Drier, hotter days are ahead. Tuesday and Wednesday will feature high temperatures in the mid-90s. More storms are likely during the upcoming weekend. A few more Monday morning forecast notes are below.
LOUD STORMS POSSIBLE TODAY; HAIL & GUSTY WINDS POSSIBLE… I will have radar updates posted throughout the day in the RedZone Weather app as we are expecting another round of showers and thunderstorms to develop this afternoon into this evening. Keep in mind that not all communities will get wet before the end of the day, but some communities will have downpours at times. Gusty winds and hail up to quarter size will be possible.
EXPANDED, LEVEL 1 (OUT OF 5) SEVERE WEATHER RISK… The Storm Prediction Center now includes ALL of southwest Alabama and northwest Florida in their Level 1 (out of 5) marginal severe weather risk valid for today. This risk zone is driven by the potential for gusty winds and hail and NOT an elevated tornado risk.
SUNNY, DRY DAYS TUESDAY THRU FRIDAY… Hot temperatures are ahead as we get into Tuesday and Wednesday. Highs will rise into the mid-90s with heat index values approaching 100° in the afternoon hours. Sunshine is expected Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday as a big dome of high pressure takes control of our weather pattern.
