SCATTERED POP-UP STORMS LIKELY AGAIN TODAY… More thunderstorms will fire up across parts of south Alabama and northwest Florida on this Tuesday. Most, if not all, of the storms will be well under severe limits today but some of the storms will inevitably be rowdy with loud thunder, cloud-to-ground lightning, heavy rain, and gusty winds being possible. Most of the thunderstorms will happen in the afternoon and evening hours. High temperatures will yet again be around the 90 degree mark today. Locally, I don’t see any significant weather pattern changes over the next 7-10 days. P.M. storms will continue to be the norm. The good news to report this morning is that the tropical wave we have been tracking in the Atlantic Ocean will likely fizzle out this weekend. A few more Tuesday morning notes are below.

40% CHANCE OF TROPICAL DEVELOPMENT IN ATLANTIC… The National Hurricane Center continues to note that a tropical storm may develop later this week or this weekend in the central Atlantic Ocean. This system will likely never come remotely close to south Alabama or northwest Florida. Most of the global weather models show the system either fizzling out in about 5 days (IF development happens at all) or a northward movement into the open waters of the northern Atlantic Ocean. Either way, we are in good shape! From NHC: “A tropical wave continues to produce a large area of disorganized showers and thunderstorms over the eastern tropical Atlantic a few hundred miles south-southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands. Gradual development of this system is possible and a tropical depression could form by the middle or latter portion of the week before environmental conditions become less favorable by this weekend. This system is expected to move westward to west-northwestward at 15 to 20 mph across the tropical Atlantic during the next several days.”

GULF & CARIBBEAN SEA ARE QUIET… Other than the tropical wave moving westward in the eastern Atlantic Ocean, it should be noted that the Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean Sea are quiet. We will really need to keep a close eye on the entire Atlantic Basin in the weeks ahead as the statistical peak of hurricane season approaches. The peak happens on September 11 each year.

BACKUP OPERATIONS CONTINUE TODAY… You will notice in this morning’s edition of the RedZone Weather forecast video that I continue to be “in a box” in the lower left corner of the screen. This is because we continue to recover from a lightning strike that took out quite a bit of studio equipment over the weekend. As I always say, “property can be replaced but people cannot.” I am thankful that no one was injured when the lightning strike happened (the tree outside our studio will probably be a victim – that may be the biggest loss of all!). Replacement equipment is supposed to be delivered today, tomorrow, and Thursday. I expect us to be back in normal operations (meaning I’ll be back on the green wall in the normal video format) by Friday. I should note that we have a list of contingency operations ALWAYS in place, and if we happen to ever have tornado warnings during a studio outage like this, we are always ready for that possibility. No tornado warnings are in the forecast today or this week, thankfully.

APP… If you haven’t already, be sure to download the free RedZone Weather app to keep up with all the latest information on the world of weather in south Alabama and northwest Florida. redzoneweather.com/app is the link for the free download. Once you have the app downloaded to your iOS or Android device, be sure to visit the Alerts tab (lower right corner) and tap the large, yellow Alert Settings button to customize the alerts you would like to receive straight from me.

See all the details in your Tuesday morning #rzw forecast video. Have a great day!
