COLD, DREARY, WET DAY LOCALLY; MIX & SNOW TO OUR NORTH; COLD WEEKEND… It is typically very tough for us to get a true “snow day” across south Alabama and northwest Florida with today being no exception. While it has been a close call of sorts, the mixed precipitation and snow will miss our area to the north other than an occasional ice pellet or two embedded in the rain in areas north of US84 in the northern part of our local area. What we can expect across the entirety of south Alabama and northwest Florida today is RAIN at times. A few claps of thunder will be possible closer to the beaches and bays.

COLD DAY ALL DAY INLAND; BRIEF WARM UP NEAR THE COAST… Temperatures will be stuck in the 30s and 40s all day across inland areas but a brief surge of warm, Gulf air is likely in areas south of I-10. The thermometer may briefly (for a few hours) show 60s this afternoon for places like Gulf Shores, Orange Beach, Pensacola, Navarre, Gulf Breeze, Fort Walton Beach, and Destin. Temperatures will be in the 30s region wide tonight ahead of highs tomorrow only in the 40s. Overnight lows will again be in the mid 20s by Sunday morning.

MIXED PRECIPITATION AND SNOW TO OUR NORTH… A Winter Storm Warning continues for much of the northern halves of Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, all of Tennessee, along with parts of North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Kentucky, and surrounding states. Mixed precipitation in the form of freezing rain and sleet will continue to be possible in the hours ahead across parts of central and north Alabama. Snow and bands of heavy snow will be possible in parts of Tennessee and in the Tennessee Valley region of north Alabama. Winter weather impacts, including significant road and travel impacts, will continue in parts of the northern half of Alabama, into tonight and early Saturday.

DRYING OUT TOMORROW; QUITE COLD TOMORROW NIGHT… High temperatures will be in the 40s and 50s on Saturday and Sunday with the colder temperatures happening further inland. Overnight lows Saturday night into Sunday morning will be in the low to mid 20s. Quite cold, yet again.

ANOTHER COLD WEEK AHEAD; SLIGHT WARM UP LATER IN THE WEEK… Temperatures will be in the 50s for highs on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of the upcoming week with lows in the upper 20s and 30s. We finally are seeing some preliminary signs that a temperature warm up may happen toward the end of next week. High temperatures may finally break through the 60 degree mark by Friday or Saturday. Rain, and perhaps a few thunderstorms, may become possible a week from tomorrow, on Saturday.
