SCATTERED STORMS FOR LAST DAY OF JANUARY; NICE, DRY, MILD WEEKEND… Showers and thunderstorms will continue to develop and move east across our region on this Friday. While most locations will simply have rain and thunder at times, there is a low-end, Level 1 (out of 5) severe weather risk for the eastern part of our local area. Any thunderstorms that become strong or marginally severe will be capable of producing a tornado or damaging wind gusts. MOST storms, however, will probably remain well under severe limits. The risk today is conditional in nature, meaning a certain set of circumstances would have to come together exactly right to be able to have any severe storms.
LOW-END SEVERE WEATHER RISK OVER NEXT SEVERAL HOURS… The Storm Prediction Center maintains a low-end, Level 1 (out of 5) severe weather risk zone for areas along, south, and east of Interstate 65 today. While most locales across the region will simply have rain and thunder at times, a conditional, low-end risk exists for a tornado or two and/or damaging wind gusts in any thunderstorms that become severe. MOST spots won’t have severe weather issues today as surface-based instability levels remain quite low.
