TWO ROUNDS OF SEVERE STORMS POSSIBLE IN DAYS AHEAD; FIRST ROUND WED. NIGHT… Multiple rounds of strong to severe thunderstorms will be possible over the next several days with the first round of strong storms being possible Wednesday evening into early Thursday morning. Another, distinct round of strong to severe storms will be possible Saturday night into early Sunday morning. Unfortunately, it looks like both potential rounds of severe storms will happen in the night hours. Timing changes will be possible over the next few days, particularly with the event setting up for Saturday night as that event is still 5 days out.

ROUND 1 (OF 2) SEVERE WEATHER TIMING – WEDNESDAY NIGHT INTO THURSDAY… 11PM Wednesday to 8AM Thursday is the nine hour window when strong to severe thunderstorms will be possible late Wednesday night into early Thursday morning. We encourage everyone to have multiple ways to hear warnings, including something that can wake you up.

MAIN CONCERN WEDNESDAY NIGHT ACROSS WEST ALABAMA… Scattered thunderstorms out ahead of a squall line may develop late Wednesday night across parts of southeast Mississippi and southwest Alabama. The Storm Prediction Center has included these zones in a Level 2 (out of 5) severe weather risk, meaning scattered severe thunderstorms will be possible. Places like Baton Rouge (LA), McComb (MS), Hattiesburg (MS), Jackson (MS), Meridian (MS), Demopolis, Livingston, York, Butler, Gilbertown, Chatom, Yarbo, Millry, Cullomburg, Thomasville, Coffeeville, Grove Hill, and Jackson (AL) are involved in the Level 2 (out of 5) severe weather risk zone valid on Wednesday into early Thursday.

LOWER-END RISK FURTHER SOUTH AND EAST… Thunderstorms will likely be in a gradual weakening trend Wednesday night while moving across our region as instability levels decline throughout the night. Surrounding the aforementioned Level 2 risk (above), we have a low-end, Level 1 (out of 5) severe weather risk for the remainder of southwest Alabama and northwest Florida. This is the zone where widespread, significant severe storms are less likely to happen, but still possible. This low-end risk zone includes Mobile, Mt. Vernon, Dauphin Island, Bayou La Batre, Daphne, Fairhope, Spanish Fort, Foley, Gulf Shores, Orange Beach, Bay Minette, Monroeville, Beatrice, Uriah, Evergreen, Belleville, Lyeffion, Repton, Brooklyn, Brewton, Atmore, Poarch, Flomaton, Greenville, Georgiana, Camden, Andalusia, Opp, Florala, Pensacola, Walnut Hill, Century, Molino, Milton, Pace, Munson, Jay, Whiting Field, Chumuckla, Navarre, Gulf Breeze, Crestview, Baker, Laurel Hill, Destin, Fort Walton Beach, Eglin AFB, Niceville, Santa Rosa Beach, DeFuniak Springs, Freeport, and surrounding areas.

SCATTERED STORMS ON TUESDAY… Before we get to the severe weather risk on Wednesday night, scattered thunderstorms will be possible tomorrow (Tuesday). Widespread severe storms are NOT expected on Tuesday, but pockets of heavy rain and general thunderstorms will be possible. The greatest probability of rain and thunderstorms will happen near the coast in the morning hours followed by higher rain chances further inland in the evening hours of Tuesday.

ROUND 2 (OF 2) SEVERE WEATHER POSSIBLE ON SATURDAY NIGHT… After storms clear out on Thursday morning, drier conditions will likely prevail on Thursday afternoon and into Friday. Another, potentially more potent, round of thunderstorms will be possible across much of the Deep South on Saturday evening into early Sunday morning. We note that timing of this specific severe weather setup may change in the days ahead as we are still five days out from the event. Let’s get through the first severe weather setup on Wednesday night into Thursday and then we will focus on the Saturday night event. Please check back for updates over the next few days.

MOSTLY CLOUDY MONDAY; RAIN & STORMS AT TIMES TUESDAY, WEDNESDAY, THURSDAY… Clouds will persist most of the day on this Monday with high temperatures expected to be in the low 70s. A few sprinkles will be possible today, particularly closer to the Alabama beaches. Active weather is on the way over the next few days with multiple rounds of rain and thunderstorms likely from Tuesday to Thursday. Our local area will be sandwiched between two air masses as a frontal boundary stalls nearby. This boundary will act as a focal zone for multiple disturbances to move through, bringing chances of rain and thunderstorms through Thursday. We’re also looking ahead to the upcoming weekend when strong storms may become possible on Saturday ahead of our next shot of cold air on Sunday.

A FEW SPRINKLES TODAY… Most locations across south Alabama and northwest Florida will remain completely dry on this Monday. A few widely scattered sprinkles and light rain showers will be possible, mainly in parts of Mobile, Baldwin, Escambia (FL), and Santa Rosa counties in areas closer to the immediate coast. Rain likely won’t last long in any one spot. Skies will remain mostly cloudy for much of the day with high temperatures into the low 70s across the region.

SCATTERED STORMS ON TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY… Scattered showers and thunderstorms will become possible on Tuesday. Heavier, more consistent rain will be likely at times across Mississippi along with north and central parts of Alabama. Storms will be more scattered in nature across south Alabama and northwest Florida. I am not expecting widespread severe storms on Tuesday or Wednesday locally. High temperatures will be in the mid 70s each day.

RAIN & STORMS ON THURSDAY… There is a chance Wednesday night into Thursday morning may be the time when thunderstorms are most numerous across the local area. Heavy rain will be possible at times. For now, severe weather parameters remain low through Thursday.

DRIER, BRIEFLY, ON FRIDAY… Friday will probably be the driest day in the next several days as our local area gets a brief break from the scattered rain and storms. Highs on Friday will be in the upper 60s with partly cloudy skies throughout the day.

STRONG STORMS POSSIBLE SATURDAY; COLDER AIR ON SUNDAY… Heavy rain and thunderstorms will be possible on Saturday ahead of an advancing cold front. There is a chance of a few strong to severe thunderstorms, depending on the exact setup. It is too early for specific details but this is something that will need to be monitored over the next few days. Temperatures will “go the wrong way” all day on Sunday. Air temperatures just after midnight Saturday night into Sunday will be in the 60s but temperatures on Sunday afternoon will only be in the low to mid 50s. Highs on Monday of the upcoming week will likely only in the 50s.
