GORGEOUS WEATHER THIS WEEKEND; STRONG STORMS POSSIBLE WEDNESDAY LOCALLY… Mild, nice weather is expected today and into the weekend across south Alabama and northwest Florida. High temperatures will be in the low to mid 70s today with mostly sunny skies expected throughout the day. Saturday and Sunday will feature highs in the upper 60s and low 70s with sunshine expected throughout the weekend. We’re looking ahead to early next week when a few showers may happen on Monday into Tuesday ahead of a growing potential for severe storms in the middle part of the week. The threat will materialize in areas to our northwest across parts of MS, LA, AR, and TX on Tuesday with a severe weather risk locally Tuesday night into early Wednesday morning. We’re still multiple days out from this event. Timing and specifics WILL likely change a bit over the next few days. Please be sure to check back in on Sunday and Monday for more updates.

UNCOMMON, HIGHER RISK TO OUR WEST ON TUESDAY… The Storm Prediction Center has included much of east Texas, northern Louisiana, southern Arkansas, and western Mississippi in a Level 3 (out of 5) severe weather risk valid on Tuesday, March 4. What makes this uncommon is SPC decided to do this 6 days ahead of the event – something that has only happened 7 other times since the Day 6 “30%”/Level 3 risk was introduced in 2014. There is a high probability of tornadoes to our northwest in the daytime hours of Tuesday, some of which could be strong and long-lasting. Folks near Jackson (MS), Vicksburg (MS), Alexandria (LA), Shreveport (LA), Monroe (LA), Lufkin (TX), Tyler (TX), Camden (AR), and Yazoo City (MS) should closely monitor the progress of this potentially dangerous severe weather setup setting up for Tuesday!

SEVERE WEATHER RISK LATE TUESDAY NIGHT INTO EARLY WEDNESDAY MORNING… The same system responsible for the growing tornado risk to our northwest will push across south Alabama and northwest Florida on Tuesday night into early Wednesday morning. Unfortunately, per our seemingly usual pattern, this event will likely happen in the overnight hours. The good news is thunderstorms have a potential to be much weaker while moving across our region, especially when compared with the growing risk to our west on Tuesday. We will be able to be much more specific about timing and the overall threat assessment as the severe weather potential gets closer. For now, the bottom line is we should expect a round of strong to potentially severe thunderstorms on Tuesday night into early Wednesday morning, March 5.
