RARE FLAMMAGENITUS CLOUD VISIBLE FROM MILTON… Also known as a pyrocumulus or “fire cloud,” this large smoke plume is visible across southern Santa Rosa and Okaloosa counties in northwest Florida on this Saturday afternoon. A very large, controlled burn is happening on Eglin AFB property about 10 miles northeast of Navarre or about 5 miles south of Holt and Harold.
The strong updraft from the controlled burn created this flammagenitus cloud. These clouds are more common near volcanos but can also sometimes happen near fires.
