TORNADO WATCH TILL 1AM; BE READY FOR POSSIBLE WARNINGS… Strong to severe thunderstorms will move from west to east across south Alabama and northwest Florida over the next several hours. The entire local area in south Alabama and northwest Florida is now involved in a Tornado Watch valid until 1AM CST. This means conditions are favorable for severe weather, including tornadoes and damaging wind gusts. The Tornado Watch is in effect for Mobile, Baldwin, Escambia (AL), Covington, Butler, Conecuh, Monroe, Clarke, Washington, Choctaw, Marengo, Wilcox, Escambia (FL), Santa Rosa, and Okaloosa counties. Several counties to our north in central Alabama are also involved in the Tornado Watch.
WIND DAMAGE TO OUR WEST… So far today, thunderstorms have produced numerous areas of wind damage in parts of Louisiana and Mississippi. The good news, however, is storms have NOT produced strong tornadoes so far today. This may be because winds out ahead of the storms have veered a bit to the southwest instead of being out of the south. Not as much instability is surging inland, although there is enough to support a few severe storms tonight. Be ready for possible warnings over the next several hours.
I will have many more updates posted over the next several hours in the RedZone Weather app. As always, we will “go live” if tornado warnings are required for our local area.
