RAIN AT TIMES SATURDAY INTO SUNDAY; LOW-END RISK OF A FEW STRONG STORMS… Spotty showers and thunderstorms will be possible tomorrow (Saturday, March 8) into Sunday as an area of low pressure develops and moves by our region. The overall risk of any severe storms across south Alabama and northwest Florida remains quite LOW, but not entirely zero. Any storms that ramp up to strong or severe levels will be capable of producing large hail, gusty winds, and perhaps a brief tornado or two. The overall tornado risk remains very low. Multiple waves of showers and storms are expected over the next 36 hours.

WHAT TO EXPECT THROUGH SUNDAY… It won’t rain all day Saturday in any given community, but we are expecting scattered showers and thunderstorms at times. The greatest chances of rain and storms will happen closer to Interstate 10 and closer to the beaches. Rain totals through Sunday will generally be less than one inch in total across the region. There is not a clear time frame, as far as when storms are more likely to pop up. Storms will be moving northeast on Saturday.

SEVERE WEATHER DISCUSSION – SATURDAY… The overall risk of ANY severe storms tomorrow remains low. Not zero, but quite low. The concern is that an area of low pressure will track right across our region, exposing many communities (especially communities near the coast) to some level of surface-based instability. This brief surge of warmer, more unsettled air could potentially allow some storms to become severe. The uncertainty is in the track of the low pressure area, however. IF the area of low pressure moves a bit further south, that would mean our area is north of any surge of instability. That scenario would likely limit any real chance of tornadoes. Bottom line – have a way to hear warnings, just in case we have any severe storms. The odds are quite low, but not zero.
