SEVERE STORMS POSSIBLE LOCALLY SATURDAY… Severe storms will be possible Saturday, March 15. That is 5-6 days out. The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has included nearly all of Alabama, northwest Florida, southeast Mississippi, eastern Louisiana, western Georgia, and southern Tennessee in their Level 2 (out of 5) severe weather risk valid for Saturday. This means that confidence is high enough, even in the 5-6 day range, to indicate an organized chance of severe weather. Tornadoes, damaging wind gusts, large hail, and flash flooding may become possible this upcoming weekend.
While it is notable that SPC has included the entire local area in this risk zone so early (5-6 days out), we won’t know specifics in terms of hazard placement and timing until the middle part of the week. Please check back in for updates in the days ahead. Now is the time to make plans for the severe weather potential upcoming for this weekend, however. If you have outdoor plans, make sure you have an indoor backup ready to go.
It probably won’t rain all day Saturday, but there may be periods of heavy rain and severe weather hazards.
I will have much more on this developing risk in the next regularly scheduled RedZone Weather forecast video that will be posted by 7:15AM tomorrow morning. Have a nice Sunday evening!
