SUNNY TUESDAY; RAIN AT TIMES THURSDAY; SEVERE STORMS POSSIBLE THIS WEEKEND… Beautiful weather is in the forecast on this Tuesday with high temperatures slated to be in the mid 70s. Another glorious weather day is in store for Wednesday ahead of rain being possible on Thursday. The most significant weather event of the next 7 days, however, will probably be on Saturday into Saturday night for south Alabama and northwest Florida. Severe thunderstorms will be possible in that time frame. A Level 3 (out of 5) severe weather risk zone is already in place for much of Alabama and Mississippi valid for Saturday into Saturday night. While I can’t resolve specifics like timing and hazard placements just yet, the makings are there of what could be a significant severe weather event. It will be important to have multiple ways to hear warnings this weekend.
NICE TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY… Sunny skies are expected today and tomorrow with clear skies overnight. High temperatures will be around 75 degrees today. Overnight lows by 6AM on Wednesday will be around 43°. Highs will be in the mid to upper 70s on Wednesday.
RAIN & STORMS AT TIMES ON THURSDAY… Scattered showers and thunderstorms will be possible on Thursday as an area of low pressure moves by. Widespread severe storms are not expected on Thursday but there may be some occasional (general, under severe limits) thunderstorms involved, particularly in the afternoon hours.
PARTLY CLOUDY FRIDAY… We will have a transition day, of sorts, on Friday. High temperatures will be in the mid 70s. We’ll be watching severe storms off to our northwest across parts of Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, western Mississippi, western Tennessee, and Missouri. The Storm Prediction Center has parts of these zones in a Level 3 (out of ) severe weather risk where strong tornadoes will be possible. Locally, we will not have severe weather issues on Friday but we are growing more concerned about Saturday into Saturday night.
SEVERE WEATHER POSSIBLE SATURDAY INTO SATURDAY NIGHT… It is quite uncommon to have a Level 3 (out of 5) enhanced severe weather risk 5 days out, but that is what we are looking at for Saturday into Saturday night. An upper-level trough combined with plentiful Gulf moisture will pave the way for the potential for all severe weather hazards, including tornadoes, damaging wind gusts, hail, and flash flooding. We note that instability values with this system look a bit higher than the last few systems. It remains too early to resolve details about which areas may have worse hazards AND it remains too early to be specific with timing details. I realize a lot of folks have outdoor events planned for Saturday. We will know more about timing over the next few days. Please check back with me for updates.
