LEVEL 3 (OUT OF 5) RISK SATURDAY, FOR NOW… The Storm Prediction Center has not (yet) introduced a Level 4 (out of 5) severe weather risk valid for Saturday.
They very likely will, but that has NOT happened yet.
Some TV stations have decided to go ahead and modify this. (Some stations also modify their graphics to “one up” the colors. A very confusing practice, indeed!)
While I certainly do not endorse the idea of modification regularly, is it the correct ANALYSIS in this particular case? Yes.
Regardless, we follow SPC in terms of convective outlooks around here. I don’t believe the confusion is worth it. Better to follow industry standards than cause confusion.
