STORMS MAY REDEVELOP THIS AFTERNOON; DRIER DAYS STARTING TUESDAY… Scattered showers and thunderstorms will continue to be possible across south Alabama and northwest Florida on this Monday. Thunderstorms will probably fade somewhat over the next several hours. Another round of thunderstorms could fire up right over of our local area as a frontal boundary continues slowly moving to the south. Thunderstorms today may produce gusty winds and large hail. The overall tornado risk today into this evening remains quite low – not completely zero, but quite low. We have better, nicer, and warmer weather coming for the remainder of the week, starting on Tuesday.

STORM TIMING – LATER TODAY INTO THIS EVENING… Ongoing rain and thunderstorms will likely come to an end over the next several hours. We’ll get a break in the storms with new thunderstorms likely bubbling up this afternoon into this evening, mainly from 2PM to 8PM. All of the storms should be to our southeast by 9PM at the latest. Drier weather will happen overnight into Tuesday.

LOW-END SEVERE WEATHER RISK TODAY… The Storm Prediction Center maintains the southern half of our local area in their low-end, Level 1 (out of 5) severe weather risk valid for today into this evening. The Level 1 (out of 5) risk means that widespread severe storms are NOT expected, but a few, brief strong to severe storms cannot completely be ruled out. In other words, most of us will be just fine with rain and occasional thunder but one or two stronger storms may be possible. The main concerns in any thunderstorms that become strong or severe today will be gusty winds and large hail up to half dollar size. The overall tornado risk today into this evening remains quite low, but not entirely zero, particularly closer to the coast.

DRY WEATHER TUESDAY, WEDNESDAY, AND THURSDAY… Dry conditions are expected midweek with partly cloudy skies on Tuesday and Wednesday. Mostly sunny skies return on Thursday. High temperatures will be in the low 80s.

SHOWERS POSSIBLE THIS WEEKEND… Early signs in the model guidance point to a rather unsettled pattern as we get into the upcoming weekend and early next week with a cold front approaching the area from the northwest. Multiple chances of showers and thunderstorms are likely on Saturday, Sunday, into Monday. The coverage of the rain and storms will gradually build as we get toward a week from today on Monday, March 31.
