SUNNY MONDAY; MULTIPLE CHANCES OF RAIN & STORMS LATER THIS WEEK… We’ll start the week with plenty of sunshine on this Monday with temperatures set to peak near 80 degrees this afternoon. Tomorrow will serve as a transition day of sorts with increasing cloudiness ahead of high rain chances coming in for Wednesday and Thursday. If you have an outdoor project that needs wrapping up, today and tomorrow are the days to do it as we may have several rounds of rain and thunderstorms starting on Wednesday and lasting into the weekend. Flash flooding concerns will increase later this week, particularly in areas closer to the coast.
PLEASANT TEMPERATURES TODAY AND TOMORROW… Today will be a sunny day ahead of mostly clear skies tonight. Mostly sunny skies tomorrow morning will transition into partly cloudy skies by the afternoon and early evening hours. High temperatures today will be in the upper 70s and low 80s. Overnight lows will again dip into the 50s tonight.
HIGH RAIN CHANCES ON WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY… Multiple chances of rain and storms will kick off on Wednesday. Heavy rain and thunderstorms will be possible Wednesday, Thursday, perhaps extending into Friday and Saturday. There is a chance we see a few strong to severe storms at times, but details on the severe weather threat remain a bit murky for now. That is something I will be monitoring over the next several days.
CONCERNS ABOUT FLASH FLOODING LATER THIS WEEK… The local National Weather Service discussion perfectly captures the concerns about the potential for flash flooding later this week. “Although there is a relatively high confidence for heavy rain to develop over portions of the region, where the heaviest rain occurs remains very uncertain. A reasonable worst case scenario would bring upwards of 6 inches across the area from early Wednesday morning through Sunday. This won`t come all at once, but rather as individual rounds with breaks in the rain. Our antecedent conditions are wet, with 7 day percent of normal nearing 400-600% along and south of the I-10 corridor and 200-300% along our north-northeastern counties. These areas would have the highest chance for flash flooding, though repeated instances of heavy rain and/or high rainfall rates would bring the flash flood threat areawide. Due to the uncertainty of when/where the heavier rain develops, it is prudent to remain aware of the forecast and check back for updates.”
