FLASH FLOODING POSSIBLE WEDNESDAY; HEAVY RAIN & STORMS LIKELY OVERNIGHT INTO WEDNESDAY… Heavy rain and thunderstorms will become increasingly likely overnight into Wednesday. Flash flooding may quickly become a concern tomorrow morning if thunderstorms train over the same areas. We are expecting rain amounts to vary quite a bit across the region with some spots getting as little as half an inch of rain while other locales may pick up over 4 inches of rain in total JUST with this first batch of rain and storms. We will get a break in the rain tomorrow evening, most likely, ahead of another batch of rain and storms setting up for Thursday.
The image attached highlights how the projected radar may look at 8AM tomorrow.
TORNADO RISK QUITE LOW OVERNIGHT INTO WEDNESDAY… The overall tornado risk is a bit higher for areas to our west in parts of western Mississippi and Louisiana over the next several hours. Locally, across southwest Alabama, the tornado risk is low. The risk isn’t zero, but it is quite low. The risk is even lower across northwest Florida. Could a tornado happen overnight into Wednesday? Yes. Is that likely to happen? No. I am more concerned about the potential for heavy rain that could lead to flash flooding. The overall potential for damaging wind gusts also remains quite low. Some storms may produce hail overnight into Wednesday morning. A few severe thunderstorm warnings are not completely out of the question.
MORNING COMMUTE TO BE WET… I expect that much of the local area will have rain ongoing during the morning commute hours of 6AM to 9AM tomorrow. Some of the storms may be producing torrential downpours at times. You can check the radar before you head out the door in the morning in the Radar tab of the RedZone Weather app.
APP ALERTS… redzoneweather.com/app is the link where you can download the free RedZone Weather app. We post brief updates throughout each day in the app, keeping you up-to-date about the latest happenings in weather across south Alabama and northwest Florida.
