SCATTERED STORMS TODAY; HOT, DRY END TO THE WEEK COMING UP… Showers and thunderstorms are expected to bubble up over the next several hours across south Alabama and northwest Florida in what will be the last day with scattered thunderstorms around for awhile. Tomorrow will have just a few storms around (less coverage overall) with the end to the week likely to be dry and hot. We’ve had a persistent, slow-moving area of low pressure in the Deep South over the last few days that has kept the area in an unsettled pattern. Today will continue that pattern ahead of changes coming starting tomorrow.
INCREASE IN STORM COVERAGE THIS AFTERNOON… Showers and storms will be most numerous as we get into the afternoon and evening hours on this Monday. Widespread severe storms are not expected locally, but one or two storms may become a bit stronger with localized downpours of heavy rain, cloud-to-ground lightning, and loud thunder being possible. High temperatures on this Monday will be in the upper 70s and low 80s.
ISOLATED STORMS ON TUESDAY… Tomorrow will be a transition day of sorts with only a few showers and thunderstorms being possible across the region. Most of the thunderstorms will happen in the afternoon and evening hours. High temperatures will be in the low to mid 80s.
HOT, DRY END TO THE WEEK… We will have the hottest temperatures of 2025 so far later this week and into the upcoming weekend. Highs will surge into the upper 80s by Wednesday with 90s likely for afternoon highs on Thursday and Friday. Some spots may have highs near 95 degrees on Saturday and Sunday. Heat index values will be closer to 100 degrees this weekend in the afternoon hours.
2025 ATLANTIC HURRICANE SEASON STARTS JUNE 1… We are now less than three weeks out from the start of the 2025 Atlantic Hurricane Season that kicks off on June 1. That is 20 days away for folks keeping count. Right now, there are no areas of concern in the Gulf, the Caribbean, or in the Atlantic Ocean. Sometimes we can see preseason storms in the Gulf but so far, there is no indication of that. I’ll have daily updates on the tropics in every morning text discussion starting later this week on Thursday, May 15, 2025.
