MEMORIAL DAY P.M. STORMS; SCATTERED STORMS EACH DAY THIS WEEK… Scattered thunderstorms will be possible on this Memorial Day Monday, particularly this evening between 5PM and 10PM. Not every community locally will have rain today, but several probably will. Widespread severe storms are not expected but a few of the storms may briefly become strong or even marginally severe. The greatest hazard concerns in the storms today and over the next few days will be gusty winds and hail. The overall tornado risk today remains quite low. Cloud-to-ground lightning will be a concern in the storms today. I will have radar updates posted throughout the day, as needed, in the RedZone Weather app.
“WHEN THUNDER ROARS, GO INDOORS”… It is something we all are guilty of (me included!) in that so many of us fail to get inside when we can hear thunder. No matter if a thunderstorm is 5 miles away from you or 20 miles away, if you are close enough to a storm to hear thunder, that means you’re in range of lightning danger. We encourage everyone to live by the phrase, “when thunder roars, go indoors.”
CONSISTENT PATTERN THRU THURSDAY; SLIGHTLY COOLER TEMPS LATER THIS WEEK… P.M. pop-up thunderstorms will consistently be in the forecast over the next several days with high temperatures in the 90s. High temperatures will likely drop back into the upper 80s (maybe even mid 80s) later this week as slightly below normal temperatures (for this time of year) briefly take hold of our weather pattern.
TROPICS QUIET, FOR NOW… There continue to be NO credible trends suggesting preseason tropical development over the next few days. The National Hurricane Center indicates the Gulf, Caribbean, and Atlantic Ocean will remain quiet through the upcoming weekend. The 2025 Atlantic Hurricane Season officially kicks off on Sunday, June 1.
APP… If you haven’t already, be sure to download the free RedZone Weather app to keep up with all the latest information on the world of weather in south Alabama and northwest Florida. redzoneweather.com/app is the link for the free download.
