SCATTERED STORMS TODAY; ISOLATED STRONG STORMS POSSIBLE… Strong thunderstorms will be possible across the region today as a complex of rain and thunderstorms moves across our region from west to east. Damaging wind gusts capable of knocking down a few trees will be the main concern in the strongest of the storms. The overall tornado risk today is very low. This round of storms is expected to develop during the daytime hours and gradually move across the region to the east. Another round of thunderstorms may develop across inland areas, particularly north of U.S. Highway 84, later this evening. We’ll have more scattered thunderstorms around as we get into Wednesday and Thursday as well. High temperatures will be around the 90 degree mark this afternoon.
LEVEL 2 (OUT OF 5) SEVERE WEATHER RISK TODAY DRIVEN BY DAMAGING WIND POTENTIAL… The Storm Prediction Center has included a large chunk of south Alabama and northwest Florida in their Level 2 (out of 5) severe weather risk zone valid for today, driven by the potential for damaging wind gusts in the strongest of the storms. The overall tornado risk today remains very low. The overall potential for large hail also remains fairly low. Thunderstorms that develop over the next several hours across parts of southeast Mississippi will move across our local area from late this morning through the afternoon and into the early evening hours. These storms may produce a few areas of damaging wind gusts. If you get a Severe Thunderstorm Warning today, take it seriously and get inside. I will have radar updates posted throughout the day in the RedZone Weather app.
MORE SPOTTY STORMS TOMORROW AND THURSDAY… Our weather pattern will remain generally unsettled tomorrow and Thursday with P.M. pop-up thunderstorms being possible. The overall risk of tornadoes over the next several days is expected to remain quite low but the strongest of the storms will be capable of producing gusty winds, lots of lightning, loud thunder, and localized downpours of rain.
SLIGHTLY COOLER AIR ARRIVES LATER THIS WEEK… High temperatures will be in the mid 80s on Friday into Saturday with overnight lows in the low to mid 60s. The weekend looks to be drier, overall, but we likely will continue to have a few widely scattered P.M. storms each day.
TROPICS QUIET… The 2025 Atlantic Hurricane Season will kick off on Sunday, June 1. No signs of any preseason storms in the Gulf, the Caribbean, or the Atlantic at this point.
