SCATTERED P.M. STORMS TODAY AND OVER THE NEXT FEW DAYS… We’re settling into a consistent, summertime weather pattern across south Alabama and northwest Florida with a growing chance of pop-up showers and thunderstorms each day. Thunderstorms will likely pop up across the region this afternoon into this evening. Widespread severe storms are not expected, but some of the storms will “pack a punch.” Heavy downpours of rain, gusty winds, cloud-to-ground lightning, and loud thunder will be possible. High temperatures will be in the upper 80s and near 90° today.

TROPICS: LOW-END CHANCE OF TROPICAL STORM DEVELOPING OFF CAROLINA COAST… A non-tropical area of low pressure, currently developing just to the east of the Florida Peninsula in the southwestern Atlantic Ocean, has a 10% chance of briefly becoming a named tropical storm while drifting northeast off the Carolina coast later this week. From NHC: “A non-tropical area of low pressure is forecast to form near or offshore of the southeastern U.S. coast along a frontal boundary during the next couple of days. If the low remains offshore, it could gradually develop some subtropical or tropical characteristics later this week while moving northeastward at 10 to 15 mph.”

TROPICS: GULF & CARIBBEAN QUIET, FOR NOW… The Gulf and Caribbean Sea are quiet with no new tropical storms expected to develop over the next 5-7 days.
