SCATTERED SEVERE STORMS POSSIBLE MONDAY; GUSTY WINDS & HAIL ARE MAIN CONCERNS… Scattered strong to severe thunderstorms will be possible on Monday with damaging wind gusts and large hail (up to golfball size) being possible. Thunderstorms in progress NOW across the region are producing loud thunder, intense lightning, and torrential downpours. Some of these storms will linger into the overnight hours and into Monday morning. While the overall tornado threat remains quite low, the threat of tornadoes is not zero. Gusty winds capable of knocking down a few trees will be the main concern tonight and tomorrow.
STRONG STORMS HAPPENING NOW ACROSS THE REGION… A Flood Advisory is now in place for central Escambia County, Alabama as 2-4 inches of total rainfall has happened over the last couple of hours. Thunderstorms near Brewton, Pineview, and Sardine are basically stationary. These storms are producing intense lightning and a near constant roar of thunder. We are also tracking storms near Millry, Frankville, Burnt Corn, Repton, Florala, Lockhart, Laurel Hill, Paxton, and Seminole this evening. Scattered thunderstorms will continue to be possible overnight and into Monday. We believe the main hazard overnight will be flash flooding where storms train over the same areas. Gusty winds, hail, and perhaps a brief tornado or two may also be possible. We note the overnight tornado threat remains very, very low, but not zero.
SEVERE WEATHER TIMING – MONDAY… This won’t be an organized, big batch of thunderstorms with predictable, consistent timing on Monday. Instead, I am expecting clusters of strong to severe thunderstorms that pop up very quickly and likely fade just as fast. We probably will have more thunderstorms ongoing in the morning and into the early afternoon hours ahead of a break in the action in the early evening hours. Another batch of storms may become possible after 6PM tomorrow.
