SCATTERED STRONG STORMS POSSIBLE TODAY… Damaging wind gusts will be possible in the strongest of the thunderstorms that develop across the Deep South on this Monday. The Storm Prediction Center continues to include much of Alabama and northwest Florida in their Level 2 (out of 5) severe weather risk, driven by the chance of damaging wind gusts in any storms that become strong or severe. The overall tornado risk today remains quite low, but not entirely zero. Large hail may become possible in some of the storms today as well. The greatest chance of rain and thunderstorms will happen over the next several hours. Rain chances fade a bit as we get into the evening hours, even though we probably will continue to have isolated storms into the evening. High temperatures today will be around the 90 degree mark.
SCATTERED STORMS POSSIBLE IN EACH OF THE NEXT 7 DAYS… Today will probably be the wettest day out of the next 7 days, although rain chances remain fairly elevated tomorrow. It will not rain all day in any of the next 7 days but scattered, pop-up thunderstorms will be possible. Most of the storms will happen in the P.M. hours in the peak heating hours. High temperatures will be around the 90 degree mark over the next several days with morning lows in the 70s.
TROPICS: ATLANTIC BASIN QUIET… The Gulf, Caribbean, and Atlantic are quiet with no new tropical storms expected to form over the next 5-7 days. The climatological peak of hurricane season happens on September 11.
TROPICS: EASTERN PACIFIC BASIN IS ACTIVE… Tropical Storm Barbara and Tropical Depression Three-E/Tropical Storm Cosme have developed in the eastern Pacific, south of the Pacific coast of Mexico. Both Barbara and Cosme are likely to remain away from land areas of Mexico over the next few days. Dangerous rip currents and high waves will be possible along the Pacific coast of Mexico due to these systems.
