P.M. POP-UP STORMS ON THIS WEDNESDAY… Scattered showers and thunderstorms will develop again across south Alabama and northwest Florida on this Wednesday. The greatest chance of rain and thunderstorms will happen between 2PM and 8PM with storms kicking off first closer to the coast. Storms will gradually spread inland throughout the afternoon and early evening hours. While not every community will have rain today, many locales across the region will have localized downpours.
ONGOING FLASH FLOODING CONCERNS… 10+ inches of total rainfall have happened across a fairly sizable chunk of the region, specifically in parts of Santa Rosa and Escambia (AL) counties, over the last few days. Highly saturated soil will contribute to a potential for flash flooding again today. It won’t take much rain from a pop-up storm to quickly get flash flooding conditions in some locales, like Chumuckla, Jay, Cobbtown, Flomaton, Pineview, Keego, Brewton, and Appleton. These are just some of the many communities that have highly saturated soil due to all of the recent rain.
P.M. STORMS IN THE DAYS AHEAD… Scattered showers and thunderstorms will continue to be possible over the next 5-7 days. Rain coverage may increase as we get into the weekend but in all upcoming days, there will be some sunshine in the mix as well. The majority of the thunderstorms that develop each day in the days ahead will happen in the afternoon and evening hours.
TROPICS: GULF & CARIBBEAN QUIET, FOR NOW… The Gulf and Caribbean Sea are quiet with no new tropical storms expected to develop over the next 5-7 days. There were some outlier model runs that suggested that some tropical mischief could develop in 9-12 days from now, but the model data has backed off considerably on that idea. Good news!
